My claims that the Nissan GTR was overrated was not received well. At all.

To reiterate, I have incredible respect for the Nissan GTR, but I don’t feel it deserves the Godlike status it has been given by the people on the internet who pay way too much attention to specifications.

So, two years on am I still in the minority? Am I just an idiot? Is my dislike for Nissan in general tainting my view of this car? Let me know below.

Gtr is fast as hell for the money. To claim that it's overrated isn't the case (getting a little long in the tooth now though.) Would I own one, no, but to say they're overrated I disagree.

I’m with you at least, never understood the hype around the car. Supercars are supposed to be fast, pretty, and sound fantastic, but the GT-R really only does the first one well. I can respect the engineering that went into it, though.

I love the idea and the engineering, but its ugly as hell to me.

Well, the GTR is more in the high-strung sports car field. It -started- at least for 911 money. Not sure what they go for now but I’m sure it’s much higher.

I drove one on a track after having driven a 458 and an Aventador. The GTR was the most fun, for me.

So overrated. I'm sure it's great but the hype this car had turned me off from ever wanting one

That’s fair, I consider it a borderline supercar in the same way a Z06 and ACR kinda are (price being irrelevant to performance). Last I saw it was $102k, so still a pretty good buy for the money.

The GTR platform is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it is not overrated. It’s capable of out accelerating almost everything else on the market, including cars that cost 7-digits and destroying like 99% of all cars made out on the track.

It is a technical and engineering marvel. I don’t see how it’s overrated.

I like Nissan a lot, but the GT-R to me is like a less rich man’s Veyron, an odd looking heavy car built to make numbers above all else. The engineering is amazing, no doubt, but it lost the “normal car doing supercar things” vibe that make its forebears so special. The R35 just doesn't do anything for me, but its ancestors, well... HNNNNNNGG.

They were great when they came out. They were cheap and fast. Now there’s transmission problems an they’re much more expensive.

Have you driven one? I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had the chance and it's a total piece of junk. But holy crap I love it. It's clunky, stiff, big, and just not very fun as a normal car. But when you drive it fast, Holy crap. It's just incredible.

I have not yet had the fortune to drive one. I rode in one when I was littler when the GTR first came on the U.S. scene but I was so mesmerized but the fact that I was in a fast car, and so 10 years old, that I wasn’t able to make any meaningful conclusions about the car.

I appreciate the GTR but always felt that, at the price point, there were other cars I’d prefer owning and that were a lot more fun to drive.

Well it depends how you formed your arguments 2 years ago. :P

There was a lot of talk about it of course, since it was the first global Skyline in a million years. It took a while for folks to have an overall take on the car.

I hope the Focus RS gets a lot of talk as well since it finally is being sold in the US. That is a fast car as well that doesn’t cost $100,000.

No one doubted the performance aspect. You’d see reviews claiming the car is the overall best you can get on the road. But apparently those reviews were being written before the adrenaline settled back to normal levels. :P

I really don’t care for the design still (it still looks like the front half was done by Infiniti and the back half by Nissan). But subjective aside, long term tests, and in particular the Best Drivers Car tests show the GTR is not on some all high, no flaws pedestal.

It’s one of the few high-end performance cars I find rather boring.
